Obama Team’s Deceptive Video Edit Plays Strawman Fallacy

The Obama team only gets away with their lying because the media is so eager to let them get away with it. Here’s a perfect example – they’ve been trying to scare seniors by lying about the Ryan plan, and then conflating it with Romney’s plan.

The lie is that Ryan’s plan would change benefits for those 65 and older – it wouldn’t. If you want to see a painful attempt by Debbie Wasserman Shultz to contort the truth into their narrative, watch this exchange between her and Wolf Blitzer.

Today, they added a deceptively edited video [a la Andrea Mitchell] to substantiate their lie:

  Here’s the video:

However, it cuts out the rest of Romney’s comments, mid-sentence. Here’s the transcript via Action 2 News:

Actually, Paul Ryan and my plan for Medicare, I think, is the same if not identical–it’s probably close to identical. Our plan is for people 55 years of age and older. There’s no change. The only change I’d mention for 55 or older is we’d restore the $817 billion President Obama took out of the Medicare trust fund.

This is the rhetorical three-card monte game the Obama team is playing – lie about the Ryan plan, then say it’s the same as Romney’s plan, and impose the lie on Romney in order to scare Seniors.

I guess you have to resort to lies when your record is as crappy as Obama’s.

UPDATE:

David Axelrod tweeted it out too.
