Ohio Grassroots Firearm Group Pays for First Ever Teacher Gun Training Program

A grassroots firearm group in Ohio called for teachers to participate in an absolutely free self defense and gun training program, and received 1,300 applications for only 24 slots.

Anyone still think educators are against guns in schools?

The Buckeye Firearm Foundation paid $30,000 for 24 Ohio educators to attend the three-day class.

Besides shooting fundamentals, teachers learned how to stop an active killer in a school.

Deanna Lemaster, who teaches in a Columbus-area school, says it’s difficult to watch the images of recent school violence and not want to do everything possible to protect the children.

“It’s a real problem, and it’s a real threat and it could happen anywhere,” said Lemaster.  “It could happen to me, it could happen to your child.  It could happen and it’s going to happen again I’m sure.”

Lemaster says it’s difficult to think about an attack on any school and the impact on the children.

“Would I have taken a bullet for them?  Absolutely. Would I rather have something to protect them and return them to their parents alive?  You bet,” Lemaster said.

The Buckeye Firearms Group posted some letters they received of the teachers who went to the training:

I would like to personally thank you for that great opportunity. This was my first time seeing Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman speak and surely not the last. What a great guy, and strong freedom fighter for our rights! Every word he spoke touched a prism of my heart that I truly wasn’t expecting.

During these times of struggle, and an outright war for what we are God, and lawfully, given, it warms my heart to see a group of individuals so dedicated and driven to fight for what is rightfully ours, the second amendment!

In the face of the recent rash of mass murders, you not only rhetorically and generically say “It’s unconstitutional to start banning and registering firearms!” you also stand for a more radical approach. That approach being arming and empowering teachers, administrators, and school board members with KNOWLEDGE. The knowledge about firearms and firearm safety. About situational awareness, building safety and security, and about crisis management! I could see the transformation unfold before my eyes, from SHEEP to SHEEPDOG [that day]!

I’d much rather hear this coming from educators than leaving children unprotected and putting their faith in some ridiculous “gun-free zone.”
