Here’s Fox News’ Shepard Smith Wondering if Cowardice Led to Robin Williams’ Suicide

While most people are mourning the tragic loss of Robin Williams, Fox News’ anchor Shepard Smith wondered if his suicide was caused in part by cowardice.

Here’s the video:

After a public furor over the comments, Smith apologized profusely for making the suggestion:

I would never presume to know anything about his private life. And if any of his family members and friends were to have seen me use the word “coward,” I would be horrified.

I would just like to apologize to the end of the earth to anyone who might think that I meant to openly call him a coward.

To the core of my being, I regret it. It just came out of my mouth. And I’m so sorry. And to anyone and their families who see that, I am sorry.

While the insinuation didn’t seem to be completely out of the question, it wasn’t very bright to say so on the day that everyone found out the beloved actor had committed suicide. We’ll probably never really know why Robin believed life was no longer worth living, but we can all acknowledge the deep tragedy.

We can still morn Robin Williams and call what he did cowardice. There is nothing noble or heroic in killing yourself. Think of the family he has left behind, because now they are in pain.

Having 1 brother and 2 uncles take the bullsh!t cowards way out makes it easy for me to agree with you.
Tragic would have been death through no fault of his own. The only tragedy here is how he said f’u to his family.

I think Shep is a tool so I expect it from him. It was the truth, but not an appropriate time or broadcast to make that statement.

Yes I was a fan, just not a sycophant for his celebrity.
