If ever you find yourself running for president with a scandal that cost American lives due to your incompetence, the best way to deal with that is to write a book rehashing your failure, and hire a guy who contemptibly forgets the details of that night on national television.
That would be Tommy Vietor, the baby-faced former NSA spokesman who dismissively snorted, “Dude, this was like, two years ago,” as Bret Baier questioned him about the source of the changes to the controversial talking points.
The news item was included in a report on Hillary’s release of the chapter from her book, “Hard Choices,” on Benghazi to Politico’s Maggie Haberman:
And in a sign of the concerted effort to rebut the ongoing controversy in a cohesive way, Clinton’s camp has brought on former National Security Council spokesman and longtime President Barack Obama hand Tommy Vietor to assist in the response to the book, a source familiar with the plan said.
We look forward to hearing from “Hard Choices” Hillary on how difficult it was to choose to protect her and Obama’s political careers instead of doing everything they could to save Americans under attack from terrorists.
The Obama administration announced a stunning agreement with the Taliban to have our last prisoner of war feed in exchange for the release of five prisoners of Guantanamo Bay. From USA Today:
Bergdahl, 28, was serving in a parachute infantry regiment of the the Army’s 25th Infantry Division, when he was captured in Afghanistan June 30, 2009.
He is now under the care of the U.S. military after being handed over by his captors in Afghanistan, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said in a statement.
“We will give him all the support he needs to help him recover from this ordeal, and we are grateful that he will soon be reunited with his family,” Hagel said.
Hagel also said he informed Congress today that the USA is transferring five detainees from Guantánamo Bay to Qatar, which has agreed to ensure that security measures are in place and the national security of the United States will not be compromised, he said.
Our rabid friends on the left tell us there’s a lot of prisoners in Gitmo who don’t belong there, but I doubt that the Taliban would give away their prized capture for just anyone. You probably won’t hear about who they are from the media exulting over Obama’s “leadership”:
Terrorism expert @thomasjoscelyn on the Taliban commanders exchanged for Bowe Bergdahl: They are "among the most dangerous" at Guantanamo.
Oh that’s good. They should probably get that “Death to America” attitude out of their system in a year.
While it’s wonderful to have the last captured American prisoner of war released, the devil is in the details, and we don’t really have enough to judge whether this is just another in a long chain of naive stupid decisions by the administration.
Jay Carney can’t take the pressure anymore! Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest will take over for the lying liar in charge of lying lies for the liar-in-chief. Congratulations! Here’s some people on Twitter saying funny things:
Breaking: Jay Carney to leave WH, manage son's boy band
One of the real tests of Obamacare is whether or not health insurance rates increase or not, and one of the reasons to think that they’re probably going to skyrocket is that the Obama administration is hiding those numbers for 2015.
Consumer Reports is circulating a petition to demand from Kathleen Sebelius that these rates are released before she leaves office:
Health insurance companies are setting rates right now for next year. But while federal regulators knowwhat rates companies are seeking, you don’t have a clue. Even though the law says these rates, and the reasons insurers use to set them, must be made public!
…Tell HHS Secretary Sebelius to release next year’s insurance rates before she leaves office – and hold insurance companies accountable!
Remember way back when Obama ran in 2008 under the promise that he would have the most transparent administration ever? Apparently he doesn’t either.
In what is sure to keep presidential historians up at night, Obama admitted that he had recently drawn up from the depths of his fractured mind the memory of playing football and receiving so many concussions that there’s no doubt he is no mental state to lead a Grrrl Scout Troupe, much less the greatest nation on Earth.
Today's sports safety event at WH – Pres Obama says he may have suffered concussions playing sports – wants better safety for young athletes
Even among his most devoted of Obama cult adherents, those in the highly respected objective news media, there is some doubt about this confession, given that this is roughly about the three billionth time that Obama has taken a political issue and made it all about himself. One wonders how he’ll manage to do that if he ever starts pulling for transgender rights. Oh wait, there’s that.
The implications of having back-to-back presidents with concussed brain meat are far too horrendous for anyone to behold, so we hope that Hillary’s 2016 hopes go down inflames fueled by gasoline-doused pantsuits.
We got rid of Bill because no one likes him, so this week we brought on World of Warcraft correspondent @OenoneWept to tell us about the War on Women, and @BigGator5 visited to tell us about Florida politics! WOw!! Also Matt was drunk and said stuff.
Few people cared enough to watch Obama’s foreign policy “reset speech” on Wednesday, but you might think that NSA Advisor Susan Rice might have been watching the ‘Price is Right’ instead, because her summation of his new policy came out of left field:
President Obama's bottom line: America must always lead on the world stage. If we don’t, no one else will.
I mean, I can’t begin to name all the things wrong with this statement as a description of Obama’s foreign policy. Oh wait, yes we can!
Obama specifically said that “American Exceptionalism” is no greater a concept than any other nation’s ideal of exceptionalism, mean it’s relative and not absolute.
Obama has specifically said that America needs to seek out partnerships and do less unilaterally, while filling his cabinet with people advocating America defend its national interests less.
Obama has said that America should emulate Europe more in its fiscal and social policies. How do we lead when we’re following the French?
During the overthrow of Mubarack’s government in Egypt, Obama dithered away and waited to see the outcome before he would speak out on being on the “right side of history.”
The French have led many of the military strikes that Obama has encouraged, including those in Mali and in Libya.
Do we really need to bring up Ukraine? Obama has been completely and utterly weak on supporting those disposed to Western liberal democracy in the former Soviet states which signaled to Putin to do exactly what Rice says Obama is preventing – fill the void of leadership.
Even though 60% of Iranians want their government changed, when they rose up against the oppressive tyranny, Obama did nothing to help them, even though Iran supports terrorism and is one of our greatest enemies.
How about Obama declaring Al Qaeda is dead and no longer a threat right before they attacked Benghazi and expanded their presence in Africa and the Gulf region?
Is it leadership to declare the War in Afghanistan over and let it fall into chaos just so that he can put a feather in his cap and thumb his nose at George Bush?
And that’s just off the top of my head – we could toss in Venezuela, the South China Sea disagreement, missile defense agreements in Eastern Europe, his hashtag diplomacy, and abandoning Iraq. The entire list is boring and depressing, but it all underscores how pathetic it is for Rice to shameless say America has been leading under Obama’s neglect, or that it will start leading.
If there’s an “off” button on Gwyneth Paltrow, someone needs to find it because she is just a delightful cornucopia of stupidity lately. From saying that her life is harder than a working moms, to calling her break up a “conscious decoupling,” the GOOPster has entertained us all with her lack of common sense. But this time, she’s really taken the cake and smeared into a the proverbial handicapped ambiguously-racinated baby’s face:
“You come across (online comments) about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing,” the star said. “It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing … My hope is, as we get out of it, we’ll reach the next level of conscience.”
The “Iron Man 3” star said the vitriol doesn’t affect her, but noted that “it’s taken a long time to get to (that) point.”
“I see myself as a chalkboard or a whiteboard or a screen, and someone is just putting up their own projection on it,” she said. “It has nothing to do with me.”
Wow. Well she got one thing right – she’s pretty empty except for her petty, smug petulance. While I have thought for many years that we should stop whining about how badly Obama lied about improving healthcare for our veterans and for once, give a thought to the heavy burden that this arrogant millionaire actress carries, I’m glad she has the courage to speak out about it!!!
Others on the internet didn’t share my conviction:
Gweneth Paltrow is a joke. Her life is like taking bullets for a soldier. What a joke! My 2 sons serving in the military should talk to her.
By the way, I called her the GOOPster, because she shills some products on her “Goop” site, or something. I feel ashamed that this bit of information is taking up valuable real estate in my brain, and I apologize.
President Obama gave the commencement speech at West Point today, and used the occasion to let his fans in the news media find out what his new foreign policy initiatives are, since no one really knows what the old ones were, and they failed anyway. But don’t concern yourself with chasing down the video of the speech, that’s what Twitter is for!
Washington Examiner journalist Byron York is a pretty bright guy and knows politics well, so he understood how accurately Twitter user (and National Review columnist) Jonah Goldberg was in describing Obama’s speech:
Some say we must put armadillos in our trousers to defeat tyranny. Others say that cats are poor spellers. I reject both points of view.
Yes, it’s hilarious, but it’s also very descriptive – Obama’s speech was full of “strawman fallacies” of argumentation. The fallacy is setting up fake arguments from your opponents while ignoring their real arguments, so your side looks more cogent.
That one’s a twofer – not only is it a strawman, but it’s cliched too!
Over and over, Obama defended his failures by misrepresenting what his critics said about his foreign policy, while only vaguely outlining what his “new” foreign policy is going to be like. This portends three more years of fecklessness from a president without principles.
Army Veteran Ernesto Mariscal was outraged when he saw the American flag flown upside down at a small local shopping mall in Calexico, California, and stirred a lot of outrage on Facebook when he posted a picture Tuesday evening:
After only 12 hours, the post was shared 254 times, and reads as following:
Everyone call this place tomorrow and complain. I want to cut it down but I need a ladder. Price Center in Calexico CA. Lets raise hell come tomorrow, it opens at 9 AM western time.
The comments were filled with very angry people, one of which contacted a councilperson who seems to have put some pressure on the property owners. Before the mall was even opened, they posted on their Facebook page this response today:
This is what happens when proud citizens speak up when something isn’t right.
Of course, in a military context an upside down flag signifies distress, so maybe this accidental event represents the state of the country more than many would like to admit.
Sergeant Mariscal and others kept pressing the issue until the store also lowered the height of the Mexican flag to that lower than the American flag, according to United States federal “flag code.” Here’s a pic:
While it might be a small matter to some, to those who respect the sacrifices made by service members for our freedoms while under that flag, the correct display of our banner is a representation of the pride we have in our country. Good job to those who still hold such honor in high esteem.
In yet another embarrassment to Obama’s State Department, conservative news outlet Free Beacon forcedthe Counter Terrorism Bureau for endorsing a Muslim cleric who supported a 2004 fatwa (an Islamic religious order), endorsing the killing of U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq:
The apology came on the heels of a Friday Washington Free Beacon report detailing the CT Bureau’s promotion of Sheik Abdallah Bin Bayyah, the vice president of a radical Muslim scholars group that was founded by a radical Muslim Brotherhood leader who has called “for the death of Jews and Americans.”
…The CT Bureau apologized multiple times on Tuesday for tweeting in favor of Bin Bayyah and promoting an article on his website.
“This should not have been tweeted and has since been deleted,” the CT Bureau tweeted at users who expressed anger over the original message.
“It was wrong and should not have been tweeted,” the bureau later tweeted in response to other outraged individuals.
Oh hey, Counter Terrorism Bureau, it’s ok, we all mistakes. Except you’re kinda tasked with “countering terrorism,” so it might help if you could, oh I dunno, maybe not promote terrorists? Yeah that’d be great.
That’s almost like the National Park service preaching how wonderful Islam is. Oh wait. Dammit.
Yes, it’s the season for American college students to graduate from the care-free, sex, drug and beer-fueled days of college and head into crushing college loan debt and unemployment thanks to Obama’s failed economic policies. But don’t worry kids, Tom Perez, Obama’s Secretary to the Labor Department, has some great advice for you while you waste about in your parents’ basement:
Congrats to @oberlincollege grads today. Remember: Don't let individualism trump community; move from a selfie culture to an #ussie culture.
After all, individualism leads to hard work, hard work leads to personal responsibility, and personal responsibility leads to the dark side – voting Republican! Fox News commentator and capitalism-mongerer Jonathan Hoenig deciphered the odd commie-speak for everyone:
“@LaborSec: Don't let individualism trump community…" // Pure, un-American collectivism.
Pretty ironic for Obama’s appointee to tell everyone to move away from a “selfie culture,” when it’s his boss whose regime’s only highlights aretaking selfiesand making hashtag campaigns. On the other hand, it doesn’t really matter what grads do with their lives, because as we all know of anyone’s American success, “you didn’t build that!”
Either the Jews or the white privilege patriarchy got to MSNBC host Touré, because he had to take back his absolutely execrable comments about “white privilege” giving an advantage to survivors of the Holocaust. Here’s the original tweet:
The power of whiteness: RT @hope_and_chains: My family survived a concentration camp, came to the US w/ nothing, LEGALLY, and made it work.
But, if you parse it closely, you’ll see he’s just apologizing for the Twitter exchange – ostensibly, he still holds that view, he just thinks it was foolish to talk about it on the limited social media platform. Well, we’d love to hear what you really think, Touré.
