VIDEO: ‘They Did NOT Follow The Law’ – U.S. Archivist on IRS and Lois Lerner’s Emails

The U.S. Archivist of the National Archives and Records Administration testified today that the IRS did not follow the law when it did not notify the NARA about losing Lois Lerner’s emails. While he resisted saying they “broke” the law, he eventually admitted that they did not follow it.

“Is it fair to say that the IRS broke the Federal Records Act?” Walberg asked.

“I’m not a lawyer,” Ferriero hedged.

“But you administer the Federal Records Act?” Walberg pressed. “If they didn’t follow it, can we safely assume they broke the law?”

“They did not follow the law,” Ferriero confirmed.

On Monday, the IRS Commissioner said he could not remember who notified him that the emails were deleted, but the committee was able to get the names of the five staff members who might have done so. I get the feeling they’re trying to drag this out until the American people get sick of it.
