Desperate Obama Team Peddles 5 Month Old Story as Campaign Crumbles

After getting absolutely spanked by the New Media on their failed “Sensata” smear on Romney, Biden being widely ridiculed for being a buffoon at the debate, buried by even their own media on Benghazi, and sputtering out on the “Big Bird” campaign,  the Obama team must have made a desperate call to the New York Times to find something, anything, they could throw at Mitt before the next debates.

What’s their gamechanger this time?

Wow Sparky! That’s pretty devastating! And what luck that this story broke on the exact day they needed it to!

Except, whoops, the story has been out for months…

From NYT today, about Walter De Vries:

A longtime aide to George W. Romney issued a harshly worded critique of Mitt Romney, accusing him of shifting political positions in “erratic and startling ways” and failing to live up to the distinguished record of his father, the former governor of Michigan.

From the New York Magazine 5 months ago:

De Vries…in 2007 spent much of his time researching a book he planned to write,…about Mitt Romney, through the lens of his father’s politics. He gave the manuscript the working title Governors George and Mitt: Like Father, Like Son. But during the 2008 campaign, as De Vries was working on the manuscript, it began to occur to him that the attributes that had once drawn him to George were not so apparent in his son….One day, De Vries sat down at his computer and, with no clear precipitating cause, deleted the manuscript’s title. In its place, feeling peevish, he typed in a new one, The Political Mitt Romney: Not His Father’s Son. Then he called [co-author] Broder, and told him that his thesis needed to change.

Wow Stephy! I can’t believe it! Oh wait, we knew that already.

From NYT today:

“While it seems that Mitt would say and do anything to close a deal – or an election,” he wrote, “George Romney’s strength as a politician and public officeholder was his ability and determination to develop and hold consistent policy positions over his life.”

From the New York Magazine 5 months ago:

In Mitt’s politics, his father’s fervent progressivism has become instead an ideologically empty pragmatism that succumbs to whatever his audience wants to hear. What remains is the peculiar character of the current Republican nominee for president, an organization man without organizations.

Is that how desperate the Obama campaign is? It has to make up fake bombshells from 5 months ago? Ouch.

Can you blame them?

New polling out today has Mitt Romney ahead 50%-46% in 12 crucial swing states, evening up among women, and they just announced that they  raised a monumental $176 million in September.
