You might think that outsourcing of jobs to a foreign country might be a sensitive subject for any politician this election year. Unless you’re a democrat – then the media hides and ignores the potentially damaging subject.
Case in point – Democrat US Senator Sherrod Brown toured the Ohio Navistar manufacturing facility, touting the “Jobs Tour” while supporting the Obama campaign, which had slammed Romney for Bain’s outsourcing of jobs, despite his leaving the company 12 years ago.
So where are these jobs coming from? Is it because Navistar is benefiting from Obama’s economic recovery? Not so much, gringos.
In fact, the reason jobs are being transferred to Ohio are exactly because of the kind of bureaucratic regulations that Obama is imposing on the auto manufacturing industry:
Navistar International Corp. said Tuesday it intends to close a truck assembly plant in Garland, Texas, by the first half of 2013 as part of its efforts to cut costs.
…
Navistar employs about 900 salaried, hourly and third-party temporary workers at the Garland facility. Production will be moved beginning in January 2013 to the company’s plants in Escobedo, Mexico, and Springfield, Ohio.
…
Navistar has already laid off about 800 salaried workers. The truckmaker expects those job cuts to save the company $70 million to $80 million annually.
Doesn’t it seem a little disingenuous to tout a “Jobs Tour” at a company that’s laying off people, sending those jobs to Mexico, and simply displacing some to Ohio?

Sherrod Brown shamelessly praised this action by Navistar, as if cannibalizing jobs from another state would help America.
Here’s the reason they’re closing down the plant:
Navistar’s troubles stem from an engine technology that cost $700 million to develop since 2001 but failed to reduce levels of smog-causing nitrogen oxide enough to meet 2010 federal standards.
Obama ridiculed Romney for his stance on higher efficiency regulations:
“My opponent called my position on fuel efficiency standards extreme,” Obama quipped. “Maybe the steam engine is more his speed.”
And the Romney camp responded, absolutely predicting the exact conditions that would drive Navistar to shut down production and layoff 900 jobs:
“The president tells voters that his regulations will save them thousands of dollars at the pump, but always forgets to mention that the savings will be wiped out by having to pay thousands of dollars more upfront for unproven technology that they may not even want,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement.
Unproven technology is exactly what sunk Navistar, and forced them to shut down the Texas plant. And yet Democrat Sherrod Brown acts like the “Jobs Tour” helps America, when it’s the perfect example of how over-regulation destroys American jobs.
If we had a competent press, they’d demand to know if this what Obama meant by saying “everyone wins” with this regulation.
But we have the complicit tongue-wagging lapdog media, so most Americans will never hear of this….
