Three Fallen Foreign Policy Angels On Obama’s Shoulder
There are three elements to rhetorical persuasion:
Pathos: Ambassador the UN Samantha Power advocates for the Syrian strike based on purely humanitarian grounds – she believes our highest motivation should be to preserve life, not our national interests.
Ethos: John Kerry has a huge head, and goes around telling everyone he was in Vietnam, so we should listen to him.
Logos: General Dempsey persuaded Obama to seek Congressional approval for the Syrian strike – he’s more pragmatic about foreign policy than Power.
